Benefits of being an ESA member

ESA membership provides access to the ESA's journals, the opportunity to register for ESA conferences, and the ability to vote in ESA elections.

ESA memberships are on a calendar-year basis.  Memberships for the next calendar year are generally made available from roughly December 1 of the preceding year.

Journal Access

Paid membership in the Economic Science Association for a given calendar year includes electronic subscriptions to both Experimental Economics and Journal of the Economic Science Association for that calendar year. Electronic subscriptions are updated quarterly in January, April, July, and October.

Those members purchasing their membership for a given year before the start of that calendar year will also have the opportunity to purchase print subscriptions to Experimental Economics and/or Journal of the Economic Science Association for an additional charge. Print subscriptions are not included with membership. Print subscriptions are updated annually in January.

Conference Registration

To register for an ESA conference, you must have a membership for the calendar year in which the conference is held.

Membership is not required to submit a talk for consideration for a conference.  If your talk is accepted, then to appear on the program you must register for the conference (and therefore also be an ESA member) no later than the early registration deadline.

Voting

The ESA holds open elections for its executive board and officers each spring. Individuals who have purchased their membership for the calendar year at the time of the elections are eligible to vote.

Rates for 2024

The standard membership rate for the 2024 calendar year is $50.

We offer a concessionary membership rate of $20 for:

  • Those who are currently enrolled as a doctoral, master's, or undergraduate student.  Post-doctoral researchers are not eligible for the concessionary rate.
  • Those who reside in a country not classified as high-income by the World Bank.  Eligibility is based on the country in which you reside and/or are employed, and not your country of origin or citizenship.
